Top 10 Best Horror Films of 2025 The Complete Guide to Horror Movies

Spoiler warning!
This countdown includes spoilers on each of the movies featured.

2025 is almost over and it’s time to look back at the successes in the horror film world. We’ve had numerous sequels, original horror that’s been critically acclaimed, independent body horror and more.

This Top 10 list is my own personal ranking, I encourage you to let me know your Top 10 horror movies in the comments below

10. V/H/S Halloween
There’s like 19 VHS movies so you’d think the quality would dip but instead VHS Halloween shines with five horror thrilled stories around Halloween. Standouts like Coochie Coochie Coo and Fun Size showcase two different approaches to trick or treating with lethal results. Kidprint on the other hand is one of the darkest entries in the franchise. There are some downsides though with the second and final segments not being up to par but this anthology proves that it still has surprises and creativity up it’s horror sleeve.

9. Good Boy
Not to be confused with 2003 film of the same name, good boy follows Indy and his owner, Todd, a young man with a chronic lung disease, as they move into Todd’s late grandfather’s rural home, where a malevolent supernatural presence gradually engulfs Todd, while his devoted dog attempts to rescue him. It’s a unique film that asks the viewer “What if we could see the dark scary shit that dogs can” and it works effectively. You’ll think twice next time your pet starts barking at thin air.

8. Companion
You’re my little boo thang! Companion began creeping on to the internet with it’s unusual trailer and it’s strategy surprisingly worked. This is a fantastic sci-fi, horror lite film about AI, robots and humanity’s obsession with power and control.
Sophie Thatcher shines and Jack Quaid plays… well Jack Quaid but the addition of Lukas Gage elevates this quirky flick to a comedic edge with heart and horror.
Could this film be a prediction of a world where companion robots are the norm?
Time will tell.

7. The Ugly Stepsister
Fractured fairy tales are common in horror folklore but The Ugly Stepsister steps it up several notches by incorporating body horror. It retells a twisted story of Elvira, who competes against her beautiful stepsister in a bloody battle for beauty. It’s a wince inducing affair that has been regarded as many viewers favourite horror film of the year. I won’t look at Cinderella in the same way again.

6. The Monkey
The better movie to come from Osgood Perkins this year, this Final Destination style thriller follows two brothers who are consumed by a deadly curse in the form of a creepy toy monkey.
There are enough creative and gruesome kills to satisfy the appetites of horror hounds everywhere while also playing to its campy and comedic strengths.
This is for the 90s kids who grew up with Are You Afraid of The Dark and Goosebumps so strap yourself in for a fun ride that requires no brain power.

5. Together
Dave Franco and Alison Brie star as the co-dependent toxic couple from hell who accidentally fall victim to a mysterious force that causes horrific changes to their bodies.
This Australian production is an underseen gem that examines codependency, soulmates and monogamous relationships in a twisted story that will leave you wanting more.
Damon Herriman in my opinion steals the show, if you love Australian horror, you need to see this.

4. Final Destination: Bloodlines
Far from a nostalgic cash grab, the sixth entry in the Final Destination franchise impresses with an over the top opening premonition disaster that spotlights an entire family. Creative kills continue to thrill audiences, it’s just a shame that the third act disappoints with a rushed and bizarrely bullshit ending that calls back to the log truck from Final Destination 2. Still this a thrilling and fun ride that feels like a love letter to the final destination franchise.

3. Sinners
Another smash hit from Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema. Sinners is set in 1932 in the Mississippi Delta, starring Michael B. Jordan in dual roles as criminal twin brothers who return to their hometown, where they are confronted by a supernatural evil. This is a fantastic movie that deserves all the accolades it’s been receiving.

2. Weapons
Burn me at the stake but I feel I was one of the 2% of people who actually loved, understood and appreciated this movie. There’s fantastic jumpscares, great suspense building and one of the most iconic villains with Aunt Gladys. You’ll love this movie too if you’re not a fucking idiot that needs everything explained to them like a 5 year old. Put down your phone and watch the damn movie.

Thanks for watching, let me know your Top 10 Horror Movies for 2025 below and stay tuned for Season 5 of The Complete Guide To Horror Movies podcast. We kick off the new season in late February with a deep dive review of Scream 7.

1. Bring Her Back
If you haven’t seen this movie yet, what are you doing?
This is hands down the best horror movie of the year and it’s no surprise.
This is from the same directing duo who wrote and directed 2023’s Talk to Me.
The less you know about this movie, the better.
Just be warned if you’re squeamish of anything to do with teeth or blood.
The grief aspects of this movie are understated and it’s this emotional connection that elevates this film to pure excellence. The future is bright for directors Danny and Michael Philippou.
